History

GMH Tswelelo is a dedicated road and stormwater design engineering consultancy established in 2006.  GMH Tswelelo serves both the public and private sectors within the fields of traffic engineering, all aspects of road and bridge design, structural design pertaining to roads and earthworks, geotechnical work, project and programme management and the whole spectrum of municipal services design.

Ownership and Management

The firm is owned and managed by George Hattingh (Pr Eng), Sibo Soyayiya (BTech), and Louis Marais (Pr Eng), with shareholding of 39%, 51% and 10% respectively.

George Hattingh is a Civil Engineer with some 49 years experience. He obtained a B Eng (Civil) degree from the University of Pretoria (1975) and a B Com (Hons) degree from UNISA (1982). He is a professional civil engineer (ECSA registration 790244) and has an NQF7 certificate of competency in labour intensive construction strategies (U002666). He is a founder member of SAT (Society for Asphalt Technology), and is also registered with the Botswana Institution of Engineers. George has spent his career involved with all aspects of road design, and is a specialist in road rehabilitation, road materials, concrete block paving and geotechnical investigations. He has worked in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia and Tanzania.

Sibonisiwe Soyayiya is a candidate engineering technician (ECSA registration 201420639). She is managing the Thabazimbi office.  She has experience with road construction, involved with visual assessments, supervision of all types of roads, surfaced and unsurfaced, road rehabilitation, bulk earthworks, stormwater and sewer..

Louis Marais is a professional engineer (ECSA Registration 20200103) and has a Master’s degree (MScEng) (Cum Laude) in civil engineering.  Louis is a versatile engineer with a broad range of experience in a number of engineering disciplines. He is experienced in design, contract management and construction supervision of road and storm water related civil projects. He is also experienced in Traffic Impact Assessments, Signal Designs, Intersection Capacity Analysis and upgrades, Transport Demand Modelling, Network Analysis and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Countries of work experience include South Africa, Switzerland, USA, Mozambique, Singapore and China

GMH Tswelelo has a skills base comprising of professional engineers, professional technologists, technicians, landscape architect, OHS practitioner, project and programme management and geotechnical capability.

GMH Tswelelo’s progressive resources enables them to provide core engineering services (traffic related work, roads, full spectrum of municipal services, structural work, landscape design and geotechnical studies) through to project and programme management, as well as other related engineering services including occupational health and safety.

Therefore, GMH Tswelelo is able to provide an integrated solutions package across the infrastructure life-cycle of projects falling within the firm’s expertise.

GMH Tswelelo is committed to the implementation of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) within its operations.

GMH Tswelelo has recently been assessed in terms of the Construction Charter by a Registered Auditor and achieved a rating of Level 2 contributor.

We are a Qualifying Small Enterprise in terms of the BEP (Built Environment Professionals) division of the Construction Charter as published in the Government Gazette Number 32305 of 5 June 2009 and comply in all aspects to the legal requirements for appointment for projects by Local Authorities under the supply chain legislation as set out under Regulation 50 (MFMA) in Government Gazette number 27636 of 30 May 2005.
